Transfer Credit

Transferring from Another Educator Preparation Program (EPP)

Candidates transferring from another Texas Educator Preparation Program (EPP) must have their previous program complete the TEA Candidate Transfer Form. This ensures that professional competencies already mastered are properly evaluated and credited.

Eligibility for Transfer

TXITE will not admit an applicant who:

  1. Has been reported as completing all EPP requirements by another EPP in the same certification category or class, unless the applicant only requires certification exam approval; or

  2. Has been employed for three years in a public school under a permit, intern, or probationary certificate (TAC Chapter 230, Subchapter D), unless the applicant is seeking clinical teaching to earn the Standard Certificate.

Transfer Requirements

Candidates may transfer into TXITE if they meet the following:

  • Completed coursework or fieldwork aligned with Texas Administrative Code (TAC) requirements

  • Verified good standing with the previous EPP

  • Compliance with all applicable TEA and TAC standards

Credit Requirements

  • Total Required Hours: 300 clock hours of educator preparation (TAC requirement)

  • Pre-Internship Requirement: Minimum of 150 clock hours must be completed prior to internship

  • Transfer Limit: Up to 150 clock hours may be transferred

  • TXITE Requirement: At least 150 clock hours must be completed through TXITE

Good Standing Requirement

All transfer candidates must be verified as being in good standing with their previous EPP, including:

  • Satisfactory academic progress

  • Professional conduct

  • Compliance with program policies

Transfer of TXITE Credits to Other Institutions

Transfer of credits earned at TXITE to another institution is not guaranteed and is determined by the receiving institution. Candidates are responsible for confirming transferability.

Transfer Process

Step 1: Submit Transfer Form

Candidates must complete the TEA Candidate Transfer Form, with input from the previous EPP, including:

  • Completed coursework hours

  • Completed field experience hours

  • Internship or practicum experience

  • Verification of candidate standing

Step 2: Review of Credits

TXITE’s Program Director or Certification Officer will review all submitted documentation to determine:

  • Alignment with TAC requirements

  • Completed hours toward the 300-hour requirement

  • Any deficiencies

Step 3: Individualized Plan

If gaps are identified, TXITE will develop a personalized completion plan, outlining:

  • Remaining hours

  • Required coursework

  • Assignments and assessments

Step 4: Admission Decision

Once reviewed:

  • Transfer credits are officially applied

  • Candidate is notified of admission

  • Candidate proceeds with program completion

Transfer Credit Limitations

  • All credits must align with TXITE curriculum and TAC requirements

  • TXITE reserves the right to deny credits that do not meet standards

  • A maximum of 150 clock hours may be transferred

Appeal Process

Candidates may appeal transfer decisions by submitting a written request to the Program Director, including:

  • Explanation of disagreement

  • Supporting documentation

Decision Timeline: Within 10 business days

Record Maintenance

All transfer documentation will be maintained in the candidate’s file, including:

  • TEA Transfer Form

  • Credit evaluations

  • Correspondence

This ensures compliance with state regulations and accreditation standards.
