While enrolled in the Pre-Teaching Coursework, you will start searching for an Intern/ Probationary Teacher of Record Position or Clinical Teacher Placement.

Intern/Probationary Teachers of Record earn the same salary and benefits as other first-year teachers and must teach for one academic year to earn the Texas Standard Teacher Certificate.

Clinical Teachers complete a 14-week student teaching placement under the supervision of a veteran classroom educator and earn the Texas Standard Teacher Certificate at the end of the placement.

You must complete all coursework, a professional practicum, and TExES examinations. If you do not complete all requirements within one year, we may extend the probationary certificate for up to two additional years. You may not teach more than three school years in Texas public schools on a probationary certificate. Upon completion of all requirements, you will apply for a Texas Standard Teacher Certificate. We will recommend you for the Texas Standard Teacher Certificate, issued by the Texas State Board for Educator Certification, a division of the Texas Education Agency. A criminal background check will be conducted prior to issuance of any certificate.
